Direct Action Plastic Offsetting
Gateley’s 24,500kg Commitment
Through its partnership with Big Blue Ocean Cleanup, Gateley plc is executing a proactive plastic offsetting initiative to neutralise its environmental footprint. Instead of relying on speculative carbon credits, this program focuses on the physical extraction and documentation of synthetic waste directly from vulnerable coastlines and marine habitats.
Initial Offset:
A £22,800 YuLife donation that funds the immediate collection and disposal of 9,500kg of ocean plastic.
Performance Offset: A £15,000 matching challenge where every £1 invested removes exactly 1kg of plastic waste, clearing an additional 15,000kg.

PRESS RELEASE
Gateley partners with Big Blue Ocean Cleanup to support marine conservation
Professional services group Gateley has announced a new partnership with Big Blue Ocean Cleanup, supporting one of its responsible business objectives to enhance education and awareness of marine conservation.
Built on a shared commitment to protecting the world’s oceans, the partnership will see Gateley support the charity’s work in empowering individuals, schools and communities to take direct action through sustainable ocean stewardship initiatives.
Earlier this year, Gateley donated £22,800 to the charity. This funding will enable the removal of approximately 9,500kg of plastic from the ocean, equivalent to the weight of two full-grown African elephants, while also supporting the charity’s schools and youth outreach programme. Through this initiative, Big Blue Ocean Cleanup delivers evidence-based, age-appropriate educational sessions to schools and youth organisations, helping young people better understand the current state of our oceans and how they can help protect them.
The donation was made in partnership with YuLife, an employee insurance, benefits and rewards app, with funds raised by colleagues tracking their daily activities, including walking, cycling and mindfulness.
In addition to financial support, employees from Gateley’s Birmingham and Manchester offices recently came together for a beach clean-up in Prestatyn, Wales, helping to tackle coastal plastic pollution and demonstrating the group’s continued commitment to reducing plastic use and supporting practical ocean conservation initiatives.
Rory Sinclair, CEO of Big Blue Ocean Cleanup, said: “We promote the healing and restoration of the marine environment through education, clean-ups, scientific research and technology development. We’ve got 30,000 people around the world helping us through volunteer work, which is growing by the day, and we’re already seeing positive results from the work we’ve been doing over the last few years.
“Gateley’s commitment to being a responsible business is more than just a policy; it’s about taking tangible action. Partnerships like this show how we can create a cleaner, healthier planet when we work together.”
Louise Hodgkinson, Responsible Business Manager at Gateley, said: “Our partnership with Big Blue Ocean Cleanup is built on a shared desire to protect and preserve our natural environment, support local communities and demonstrate how small collective efforts can make a meaningful difference.
“It’s important to us that we play an active role in creating a more sustainable future, and we’re proud to see our people leading by example.”
