Our Big Blue Ocean Cleanup at Girvan Beach

Yesterday, the Big Blue Ocean Cleanup team joined forces with the dedicated crew from William Grant & Sons for a massive day of action at Girvan Beach.

Located just a stone’s throw from William Grant & Sons’ historic Girvan distillery, this beach is a local treasure known for its clear waters and stunning views of Ailsa Craig. However, even the most beautiful coastlines need a helping hand to stay pristine.

Why We Gathered

As a global non-profit, Big Blue Ocean Cleanup provides the professional logistics and equipment needed to move beyond corporate declarations and deliver tangible marine restoration. For William Grant & Sons, this event was an opportunity to put their sustainability goals into practice right in their own backyard, supporting their commitment to making a positive contribution to the local environment.

Highlights from the Day

  • A United Effort: Volunteers from across the William Grant & Sons Girvan site swapped their distillery gear for cleanup sacks and gloves.

  • The Haul: Teams scoured the long, sandy expanse of Girvan Beach, collecting bags of plastic waste, discarded fishing gear, and everyday litter that would have otherwise ended up in our oceans.

  • Community Impact: Beyond just removing waste, these events serve as "citizen science," helping organisations understand the types of pollution affecting our coasts to better campaign for long-term policy changes.

Building a Sustainable Future

A huge thank you to everyone who braved the coastal breeze to make yesterday such a success. Every piece of plastic removed brings us one step closer to a healthier ocean.
