Big Blue Ocean Cleanup & Shepley Spring Team Up for the Yorkshire Coast

At Big Blue Ocean Cleanup, we believe that real environmental change happens when proactive businesses step up to protect our natural spaces. Recently, we had the absolute pleasure of heading out to the stunning Yorkshire coastline for an exclusive team beach clean with our long-term partners, Shepley Spring.

Our destination? The beautiful, sweeping sands of Hunmanby Gap beach. Known for its vast golden shores and spectacular views of the seabird-filled Bempton Cliffs, this beloved local gem is a haven for families, walkers, and wildlife alike. However, like many parts of the UK coastline, it faces an ongoing battle against marine pollution and plastic debris washed in by the North Sea tides.

Turning the Tide on Plastic Waste

Equipped with our professional-grade reusable sacks and plenty of enthusiasm, the incredible team from Shepley Spring traded their desks and production lines for a day of hands-on conservation.

Together, we combed the shoreline, dunes, and pathways. While Hunmanby Gap often looks pristine at first glance, our volunteers quickly uncovered the hidden hazards that threaten marine life. The team successfully cleared away:

  • Commercial fishing debris: Pieces of tangled rope and netting.

  • Ghost plastics: Microplastics and broken-down fragments hidden in the seaweed.

  • Consumer litter: Discarded plastic straws, aluminum cans, and food wrappers.

Every single piece of trash removed from the beach represents one less hazard for local marine wildlife, preventing dangerous ingestion or entanglement.

A Partnership Built on Long-Term Sustainability

This event was more than just a rewarding team day out, it represents a deep, ongoing commitment to a circular economy. As one of the UK’s leading mineral and spring water producers, Shepley Spring has partnered with us for years to make their operations as environmentally efficient as possible.

As a founder signatory of the UK Plastics Pact, Shepley Spring already uses 30% recycled PET (rPET) in their bottles and ensures 100% of their packaging is entirely recyclable. By funding our ocean activist network and physically rolling up their sleeves to clear plastic from our beaches, they are taking direct, transparent responsibility for the planet.

Thank You, Team Shepley Spring!

We want to give a massive shout-out and a heartfelt thank you to everyone from Shepley Spring who came out, braved the coastal elements, and put in the hard work. Your energy, dedication, and teamwork have left Hunmanby Gap beach safer, cleaner, and more beautiful for everyone.

Corporate partnerships like this are the backbone of our global cleanup mission. When brands act as true stewards of the environment, they inspire communities and prove that a cleaner ocean is entirely within our reach.
